“Time doesn’t heal, Jesus heals” - Sadie Robertson

My whole life I have not gone through many hard things. I have been super blessed in that way, but I do remember one hard time.

Since I hadn’t gone through much, I did not know how to deal with it, but I got lots of advice from different people. The most common piece of advice was “Just give it time, you’ll feel better!”

So, that’s what I did, gave it time, then some more time, weeks turned into months and it all hurt the same. It was quite frustrating because everyone said that time was going to help and it didn’t. When I saw a certain thing or a certain someone, I always felt that horrible feeling in my gut and cried.

Maybe time helped me not think about it constantly and I was able to get through the day a little bit easier, but the pain was still there. Just hidden a bit more.

I realized that time didn’t heal at all.

I was watching YouTube videos one day, some DIY projects or a fun fall nighttime routine.. that type of thing. Then, one of Sadie Robertson’s videos popped up. I had some time so I figured I would watch it and see what she had to say. I always loved her videos.

This video was different.

She said something that has stuck with me for years and got me out of the funk I was in when I watched the video.

“Time doesn’t heal, Jesus heals.”

I was absolutely shocked.

I mean, I knew Jesus was the one who would heal me eventually, overtime you know?

But at that moment it hit me. Time wasn’t doing anything.

So many of us are told to just give it some time and you’ll feel better, but that is such a lie!

Time normally does cover up the pain, and even makes you forget about it a little, but you aren’t truly healed. Because when a certain name is brought up, or you see something that triggers a memory, see something you don’t have in your life, are alone in your thoughts, whatever it may be and you don’t feel peace and you feel fear or sick to your stomach, you aren’t healed.

The time has covered up the pain, but you aren’t healed.

Confronting the source of the pain is scary and it often brings more pain and all sorts of feelings. But until you let God heal you are always going to feel that little gut punch when you hear or see that thing. Fear will own you in that way and what a horrible way to live that is.

God is with you. He isn’t going to let you go through this alone. He is there and all you have to do is invite Him in to help heal you.

God wants us to come to Him. He wants that more than anything. The Bible clearly says all we have to do is ask Him to help us and He will.

Psalm 34:18

“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

Jeremiah 17:14

“Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.”

Matthew 7:7-8

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

Stop letting your pain control you.

Stop letting your fear own you.

Start letting the God who heals all heal you. Let Him comfort you.

There’s a process to healing, but it’s the process that is preparing you for all of God’s promises.

Your pain has a purpose.

So confront your pain today and stop letting it control you. Invite God in and let Him show you his compassionate heart and heal you one day at a time.
